I just posted an item. I guess I downloaded a picture which was much too large. As a result, when clicking on the thumbnail picture, the large one is impossible to watch… WAY TOO BIG! Goes off the screen.

Your image was high resolution such as 300dpi. A few tips for the future, all browsers display images at 72dpi. So when working on the web, try to always use 72dpi to have the image appear as you expect. A 8" wide pic at 72dpi will be 8" wide on the screen. However the same 8" pic at 150dpi will be 16" and at 300 will be 32" wide.
Yes, we have programming for websites that will take users images and resample them to make everything fit the same all the time. However we found that users wanted to be able to keep more control. Some users like to be able to upload those high res pics for certain items that they feel require detailed review. For example a car where you can zoom in and see the details of the motor or rusted area at a bottom of a door or perhaps intricate jewelry pieces.
