I put an auction up for a single ticket to the Monday 9/19 Giants-Saints game at Giants Stadium. Because the game was supposed to be played in the New Orleans SuperDome, I thought I would get into the spirit of things, and tell members I would donate the proceeds to charity. I even told them I would prove to them that I was on the up and up, by showing them the receipt to the Red Cross.
Lo and behold, MINUTES before the auction ended, I get an e-mail from eBay. Sorry, it is against our policy to allow people to donate their proceeds to Charity, unless they go through us! So, they yank my auction, send a letter to all the bidders telling them that I VIOLATED their policy (without giving a reason, so much for my good name), cancel all the bids, and completely erase my auction from their system so I can't even fix it.
Had they bothered to contact me when the auction first went up, and given me a warning, I would have fixed it. But no, the all-powerful hand of eBay knows best.
I just put the auction back up, but frankly, there's no time left--if I did another three-day auction, it'd be past the day of the game!
So now, I'm basically stuck with a $70-100 ticket that's just going into the trash, when it could be feeding the hungry and homeless.
Thanks eBay. I guess this is what happens when you become a monopoly--customers are no longer humans but dollar signs. 1 comment, (310 reads) All Articles by, Dingleberry
